As part of its ongoing commitment to developing girls’ soccer in Northern Nevada, Nevada Elite FC will hold its annual Summer Football Academy beginning June 23 and ending on July 30, 2009. The Summer Football Academy is open to all girls regardless of club affiliation who are going into 3rd grade through 12th grade in Fall 2009. The Summer Football Academy will be held at Terrace Sports Complex, 2525 Robb Drive, Reno (location is tentative at this point). The Summer Football Academy will be led by Nevada Elite FC’s licensed coaching staff: Director of Coaching Rich Reid and coaches Jen Mavis, Randee Robinson, Joe Mavis, and Tom Vallas, with a few "guest" appearances by other coaches. Each session will be age-appropriate.
The Summer Football Academy focuses on the development of individual player skills. The Academy staff will use Coerver-based Fundamentals of Ball Mastery to teach individual technical skills including the use of different foot surfaces, moves, speed, and finishing. These technical skills will be refined in small sided games and group play, allowing players to incorporate their technical skills in under real pressure in game situations. The Academy sessions will include fun games to allow further skills refinement in player-inspired situations that teach creativity and problem-solving. Finally, each session will include the Nevada Elite FC Knee Injury Prevention Program, a soccer-specific program designed by Director of Coaching Rich Reid (who is a licensed Physical Therapist) that includes a dynamic warm-up, balance and proprioception training, specific stretching and strengthening exercises, and acceleration and deceleration technique training. The Program is incorporated into each academy session and is progressive throughout the summer.
Note: medical research shows that female athletes have significant knee injuries at a rate of 60% greater than their male counterparts in dynamic sports such as soccer. Research also shows that the rate of injury in female athletes who have undergone a specific knee injury prevention program is 60-80% better than a control group with generalized fitness training.
The Summer Football Academy is reasonably priced as well: $50 for current Nevada Elite players and their sisters, and $75 for non-Nevada Elite players. The Summer Football Academy will provide useful instruction in a fun and supportive environment that allows players to continue to work with the ball throughout the summer.
Each player will receive a Nevada Elite FC Summer Football Academy t-shirt (if registration is received by June 10, 2009).
Registration: To register for the Summer Football Academy, print the Summer Football Academy Registration Form and send the completed registration form and payment to Nevada Elite FC, 4965 Ross Dr., Reno, NV 89519, or give the form and payment to a Club coach.
