On October 11 and 12, 2008, Nevada Elite fielded five teams in the four girls’ divisions in the Sagebrush Fall Friendship Tournament. All of the Club’s teams played hard and showed well. Nevada Elite ’95 Blue finished Saturday’s group play with a 1-1-0 record, then played the SBSC Nevada Netrippers in the semifinal, winning 3-0 in a superbly played game that took the team to the championship. The ’95 Blues played the CV Zephyrs for the U14G Championship in a very close game. CV Zephyrs scored early in the first half on a hard shot from the top of the box, and the score at the half was 1-0. However, the ’95 Blues stepped up their game in the second half, and Jackie Mendoza scored from inside the box on a superb far post shot that leveled the score 1-1. The game finished at 1-1, and then went into two 5-minute scoreless overtime periods and leading to a penalty kick shootout. After a miss by both teams, the final Zephyrs shooter had the chance to tie the shootout, but Kenzie Tillitt, ’95 Blues keeper, made a superb diving save to her right, and giving Nevada Elite ’95 Blue the Sagebrush Fall Friendship Tournament Championship.
Our ladies braved the elements (snow in mid-October?) and played some great soccer. Congratulations on a great tournament weekend.

Nevada Elite ’95 Blue, playing in its first tournament of 2008-09, finished third in the Lodi Soccer Referee Association’s September Fall Classic Tournament for Boys and Girls on September 27-28, 2008, in Lodi, California. The ’95 Blues faced tough competition throughout the tournament against four California North teams. All three of their bracket games were decided by a one-goal margin, with the ’95 Blues beating Eclipse ’95 and losing to Bullard FC and ACC Mavericks (ranked #8 in Cal North). In the consolation game, the ’95 Blues beat the Turlock Tornados 2-1 to capture third place (and a nice trophy and medals). Well done, ladies!
