Director of Coaching Report – Spring 2010
It is hard to believe that another pre-season is underway and we are on our way to starting league play within a month. As you are probably aware, Nevada Elite F.C. has grown tremendously and we are now fielding 10 teams in 7 different age groups with 141 registered players! I hope you are all proud to be a part of the largest all-girls soccer club in the state of Nevada! That said, we do not care to be the biggest club, but we do strive to be the best. True to our mission, we have quickly built the model soccer club in Northern Nevada. For that I would like to thank our great coaches and parent volunteers, as well as our club president Tom Vallas. We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to this tireless group of dedicated soccer people who really provide the playground on which we play. One just needs to glance at our website to see how this hard work has translated into successes on the pitch.
From a global perspective, all U15 and below players and their families should have received a Year Outlook at the beginning of the Fall season that outlines your team’s year-round training cycle (which includes league, tournament, and supplemental playing opportunities). Integrated club-wide, this training cycle was specifically designed to provide an environment to optimize our players’ development and enjoyment of the game and is progressive throughout their growth.
A major part of a healthy training cycle includes downtimes in which players have the opportunity to play the game primarily “uncoached”, as our teams do over the winter. We strongly believe that this type of play provides an atmosphere that sparks our players' enjoyment of and love for the game. This is designed to offer a stress free time to play the game and encourages self-discovered learning.
We are now moving into a time of year that is much more actively coached and as we begin outdoor pre-season training, you will see your team will return to focus on directed and progressive training sessions. True to our philosophy and fundamentals, training sessions will have a strong focus on individual skills and you will see a heavy influence on the Coerver ball mastery skills (at all age groups).
The Spring training and tournament schedules are set for all teams at this point (the exact Memorial Day tournament is being confirmed actually—most likely a tournament in Palo Alto, CA and the surrounding area). We are waiting for the league to finalize the spring schedule, but we don't expect a final league schedule until at least the second week in March. As always, we will still have club skills sessions on Saturday mornings. We will continue to offer GK and striking & finishing sessions weekly.
A few things that I would like to point out that make Nevada Elite F.C. an amazing club:
Ø Professionally licensed head coaches for every team. These coaches are not only licensed, they have all grown up playing the game and have played at higher levels
Ø Professionally licensed assistant coaches
Ø Club Skills Sessions weekly (in season)
Ø Goalkeeper Sessions weekly (in season) performed by our Director of Goalkeeping, Jen Mavis
Ø Striking and Finishing Sessions weekly (in season)
Ø Positive Youth Development Curriculum – which includes a lecture series for the coaching staff and on—field youth development assessment by Missy Price, PhD., in the spring.
Ø Age—appropriate integrated club training cycle and club tournament guidelines
Ø Specific club training location
Ø Club Web-based calendar
Ø Full—size goals available for every team practice (as needed)
Ø Summer Skills Camp with Performance Enhancement and Knee Injury Prevention programs (June-July)
Ø A regularly updated and informative website with online club registration and payment
Ø Adidas Affiliation
Ø Coerver Soccer Affiliation
Ø Dynasty Goalkeeper Camp Host (Feb/March)
Ø Women’s Professional Soccer League Camp Host (July)
Ø Nevada Zephyr Tournament Host
As we ready ourselves for the upcoming season, the club calendar will be updated as quickly as our volunteers can do so. The coaches have communicated their schedules with their teams individually at this point. Some highlights for the Spring calendar (starting week of March 8th):
Spring Goalkeeper Sessions will be 5:30-6:45 as follows:
97-93s Tuesdays
00-98s Thursdays
Striking and Finishing will be 4:30-5:00 as follows:
97-93s Tuesdays
00-98s Thursdays
Club Saturday Skills Sessions:
00-98s at 9-10:15
97-93s at 10:30-11:45
Again, I hope to see you all on the pitch improving our soccer culture in Northern Nevada. As I hope you can see, I have a passion for this club and I hope to continue meet and exceed your expectations. Thank you for the opportunity to do what I do, and as always-
Go To Goal!
